Even though our house is tiny and needs a lot of work (mostly cosmetic) we decided to buy it as it is close to a shopping centre, public transport, schools and the centre of town is only a 5 minute drive away. Plus it has a huge flat yard and we got it for a good price. We also thought it was really cute!
Built in 1960 our house was the first to be built in our street and has had only two previous owner's before we purchased it in January 2011. There hasn't been a lot done to the house - still having the original kitchen and pink bathroom, but it's livable and has loads of potential.

When we first moved in, we called builders in to give us quotes for all the big ideas we had for our home - we wanted to get started on the renovations straight away!
One builder said to us that we should live in our home for at least a year to get a feel for the place before we do any drastic building work. When he said that to me I thought he was crazy, I mean, who wants to wait 12 months to start working on your house? Not me!
We have now been living in our home for just over a year and a half, and apart from a few urgent repairs like replacing the guttering and stove and a couple of other bits and pieces, we haven't really done much else to the house. Although we don't plan on living here for the rest of our lives, it's not a short term home either and we aren't in any rush to get it done.
What we have done though is redesign (on paper) all the rooms a bazillion times including the bathroom and kitchen - two rooms which are very expensive to fix if you get wrong. We have also done a lot of research and made lists and drawings galore.
We are going to be doing most of the work ourselves (with the exception of electrics and plumbing)!
